About Us

We bought our first Vizsla in 1983 and have been hooked on the breed ever since. We started out showing and breeding then of course bought our first male Vizsla from Judy Vernon & Dr Jean Dodd’s in 1986. We had bred our first Vizsla Kelly to Ch Kezdets Darazs Boone and fell in love with Boone. So Judy and Jean agreed to sell us Breen (Ch Kezdets Adrian Breen). Breen finished his championship easily and took his major wins in the US with great ease. Breen floated around the ring and loved to show and please. Unfortunately Breen ended up being sterile which we later learned was probably a result of having a low thyroid level. Breen lived to be 10 years old and was a true family member. Breen became our template for what a Vizsla could be from the perspective of structure and temperament. We still miss him.

Not being discouraged by our setbacks Judy Vernon called us and told us about a Boone breeding that we might like a dog from. We decided it was time to get a female and so along came Chelsea. She came from Kingswood Kennels owned by June and Jim Burns. Chelsea was the only female out of the 8 puppies born so she came home with us. Chelsea came along in the show ring when there were few Vizslas being shown so it took us a while to get her championship which we did after her first litter of puppies. Chelsea was always the queen in our house and kept order in the house even for the visiting dogs. She was an amazing brood bitch who even tried to feed her daughter’s puppies even though she had no milk. Chelsea was a strong spirited dog who lived to be 15 years and even the last weeks of life could put down her granddaughter who lived next door with just a glance. Chelsea was always the life of any party and if you had a open purse or bag she would find the chocolate and often they only way we knew was because there was a piece or wrapper on the side of her mouth. She was a character and full of life.

We did keep one puppy from Chelsea’s second litter and her name is Zoe (Adrian Dreamcatcher FD). Her father is Zeke (DC Zegiel Regal of Kent) from Paradox’s Kennels in the US. Zoe taught us what a field dog was made of. She never really liked the show ring and so spent or time with the help of field trainer Jack Clark seeing what all the excitement about field work was about. We had no idea how special Zoe was in the field until a judge asked me one day if he could buy her and there are field judges today who remember her in the field. Zoe had two litters of puppies passing on her hunting abilities and mother's show abilities. Her first litter of puppies were born on Halloween in 1998 in less than two hours. She too became a good little brood bitch.

Zoe’s second breeding was to Digger (Hubertus South Pacific from Australia) also owned by Nancy and David Heinold of Paradox Kennels. We keep one of her daughters (Maggie, Adrians Dreamshadow FDJ) born in 2002. Maggie like her mother hated the show ring and so we now spend our time with Maggie in the field where she excels. She has her FDJ and we are working on retrieving for future field tests for her Field Dog Title.

In 2006 an we had the opportunity to buy a female from Magyar Kennels owned by Yvonne Barton in New Zealand. Yvonne agreed to sell us a female and Nancy Heinold bought a male. So the two puppies were shipped together in June 2006. We drove to Detroit and picked up Scarlet who is nicknamed the princess in our house. Scarlet (Ch Maygar Delta Dreamweaver CD,FDJ) has completed her championship over specials and is pointed in the US. She was awarded her last two Canadian points by a New Zealand Judge who had given Scarlet’s mother Tar's (BIS, BISS Ch Magyar Firefly) a group placement as a young dog. The judge had no idea she was judging a New Zealand import which was even more exciting. Scarlet has shown ability in the field by achieving her FDJ in the spring of 2008 with the support and guidance of field trainer Ann Harris and owner of Bearpoint Farm. Her brother Dezso (Ch Maygar Delta Dezso  JH) is also doing well in achieving his Championship and Junior Hunter in the US. Dezso has drawn the attention of breeders in the US and has three litters on the ground.

Over the years of being owned by Vizslas, I have been involved with the VSO as the Secretary and then the President of the club for a number of years. Currently we are members of the VSO (Vizsla Society of Ontario, CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) and the VCA (Vizsla Club of America). In 2001 I spent a weekend at Pat Hastings workshop where she shared her knowledge and expertise of evaluating puppies using a method she and her husband have designed called the “Puppy Puzzle”. I have evaluated over 250 puppies since then and continue to evaluate puppies on a regular basis. With each and every litter there is something new I learn which helps me stay humble in the world of dog breeding. Puppies at 8 weeks are a snapshot into the future and this process of evaluation has helped me unravel the puzzle what each puppy might be in the future.

With this we have made many friends who continue to fill our hearts with the love and joy of having a Vizsla in life. We owe many of our lessons learned in life to our four legged friends and could not imagine life without them.
